Aura Gorki Pelinkovac (Croatian: Aura Gorki Pelinkovac - Rakija iz Hrvatske) is a traditional Croatian bitter liqueur based on Werder, which is produced in the Istria region with great dedication and according to old recipes. Pelinkovac - also known as Pelinkovec or Pelinovec - is considered a true classic among herbal spirits in Croatia and is deeply rooted in the regional drinking culture.

With an alcohol content of 30.8% by volume and its typical bitter flavour profile, this liqueur is reminiscent of well-known herbal bitters such as Jägermeister in its intensity, but stands out clearly with its particularly pronounced wormwood character. The harmonious composition of wormwood herb, various herbs and roots results in a tart, spicy and slightly medicinal flavour that is appreciated both on its own and in mixed drinks.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark brown with copper reflections.

Nose: Intense and herbal with wormwood, dried herbs, liquorice, cinnamon and a hint of orange peel.

Flavour: Tart and complex with a distinctive bitter note, earthy herbs, root spice, light sweetness and a spicy finish.

Finish: Langs, dry and bitter-spicy with a typical vermouth finish.

Aura Gorki Pelinkovac is an ideal digestif that can be enjoyed particularly well on its own at room temperature or slightly chilled. This Pelinkovac also offers varied moments of enjoyment as an ingredient in bitter-flavoured cocktails, as a shot or served with a slice of lemon on ice.
