With the limited edition Ardbeg Smokiverse, the Islay distillery is celebrating its 25th Ardbeg Committee anniversary in spectacular fashion. This release is not only a milestone, but also proof of the distillery's constant drive for innovation. At the centre of this bottling is a fascinating technical approach: high gravity mashing - a ground-breaking variation of the mashing process in which the amount of water has been drastically reduced and an even higher concentration of barley malt has been used.

This extreme compression in the mash tun, one of the central elements of Ardbeg's production, created a densely structured flavour. The result is a whisky that impresses with its particularly fruity ester flavours, sweet depth and strong smokiness. The result is a new dimension of Ardbeg that combines the distillery's heritage with futuristic technology. Smokiverse is produced in small batches, each with its own character. Bottled at 48.3% vol., non-chill-filtered and natural, this edition offers an intense and complex flavour experience.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold.

Nose: An aromatic explosion - fruity esters, smoked chewing gum, ripening barley and toasted sourdough bread merge into an intense aroma.

Flavour: Full-bodied, creamy and powerful with pungent, sooty and spicy notes such as creosote, aniseed and cloves. This is contrasted by sweet muscovado sugar, charcoal and robust oak notes.

Finish: Almost endless - with earthy peat moss, embers from the campfire and an underlying sweetness that adds depth to the smoke.

Ardbeg Smokiverse is ideal for pure enjoyment in a nosing glass to fully appreciate the multi-layered interplay of estery fruit and peat smoke. A few drops of water will also bring out the subtle layers of the whisky even more clearly.
