The Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition Balmenach 9 Years Old, with an alcohol content of 57.1 per cent by volume and a volume of 0.7 litres, is a characterful single malt Scotch whisky from the Balmenach Distillery in Speyside. This distillery is renowned for its robust, slightly spicy whiskies, which are predominantly used in blends and only rarely appear as single malts – usually through independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage.

This whisky was distilled in 2016 and matured for 9 years in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry butt (Cask #57) before being bottled in the 100 Proof Edition at a robust cask strength. Maturation in a fresh sherry cask imparts pronounced notes of dried fruit, spice and a delicate sweetness. It is bottled uncoloured and non-chill-filtered to preserve the authentic character of the cask.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light copper-gold with reddish highlights.

Nose: Aromatic and full-bodied, with sherry-like sweetness, raisins, dried figs, ripe pears and a hint of toasted hazelnuts.

Palate: Full-bodied and spicy, characterised by malt, honey, dark chocolate, orange marmalade and a pleasant oakiness.

Finish: Long and warm with lingering sherry sweetness, delicate spice and subtle toasted notes.

The Balmenach 9 Years Old 100 Proof Edition is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to bring out its sherry-driven nuances. It pairs perfectly with mature hard cheese, smoked wild salmon or savoury tapas. It is also a perfect accompaniment to desserts such as crème brûlée, chocolate fondant or orange tart.
