The Salzl Cuvée 3-5-8 Premium 2020 is an impressive Austrian red wine from the Neusiedlersee wine-growing region in Burgenland, regarded as the true flagship of the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery. This exceptional cuvée blends Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to create a powerful, complex yet harmonious wine that epitomises the highest quality, precision and passion.


The grapes come from old vines growing on sandy soils and black earth composed of loamy silt with a high gravel content – a terroir that enables optimal ripeness, concentration and minerality. Following the harvest, the grapes undergo gentle vinification before the wine is aged for 24 months in small oak barrels (100 per cent new wood). This extended barrel ageing lends it its dense structure, subtle toasty notes and exceptional complexity. With an alcohol content of 14% vol., the Salzl Cuvée 3-5-8 Premium is a dry, perfectly balanced red wine with great ageing potential – ready to drink 2025–2035.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Salzl Cuvée 3-5-8 Premium 2020 displays a deep, dark ruby red colour with an opaque centre and a delicate violet tinge at the rim. On the nose, opulent aromas of ripe berries, dark chocolate and smoky spicy notes unfold, accompanied by hints of liquorice, black cherries, figs, orange zest and a touch of redcurrant. On the palate, it is dense, complex and full-bodied, with a bouquet of ripe fruit, juicy tannins and elegant extract sweetness. The long finish is reminiscent of roasted plums, nougat and subtle toasted notes, accompanied by fine chocolate and wonderfully integrated fruit sweetness.
