Description
The Wild Boys of Club Batonnage BATONNAGE 2022 1.5 litre is a legendary Austrian cult wine that combines power, vision and uncompromising individuality. Born from an idea during a hedonistic tasting night in 2001, Batonnage still stands for the conscious shaking up of the wine world today. Behind this extraordinary project are five formative personalities of Austrian viticulture: Markus Altenburger, Florian Gayer, Gerhard Kracher, Erich Scheiblhofer and Christian Tschida.
The name Batonnage is derived from the oenological term for the stirring of yeast in barriques and symbolises a wine with unprecedented intensity and expressiveness. The cuvée is based on Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Leithaberg in Jois as well as Merlot from a top vineyard in Andau. Only strictly selected, highly ripe grapes are processed. The wine is matured for 2 × 12 months in new French barriques, resulting in a monumental red wine with enormous density, structure and depth. Each vintage is limited to a maximum of 12 barriques, making Batonnage one of the rarest and most sought-after wines in Austria. The magnum bottle (1.5 litres) additionally supports the harmonious maturity of this exceptional wine.
Tasting Note
The BATonnNAGE 2022 is deep, dark and concentrated in the glass. The nose reveals enormous depth with dark fruit, spicy notes and barrique-influenced complexity. On the palate, the wine is massively dense and powerful with monumental structure and enormous pressure. The finish is extremely long, intense and persistent.
Acidity: 4.5 g/l
Residual sugar: 1.7 g/l
The Wild Boys of Club Batonnage BATONNAGE 2022 is a wine for great moments and powerful cuisine. It is ideal with fillet of beef, dry-aged steak, lamb, game dishes, strong braised dishes or very mature hard cheese. This Austrian cult wine is ideal for special occasions, collectors and lovers of iconic red wines. Langs decanting is recommended before drinking in order to experience the full depth and structure of this exceptional wine.
