Description
Description
The Tournon Mathilda Shiraz 2023 is an expressive Australian red wine that impressively reflects the style of the renowned wine region of Victoria. This single-varietal Shiraz combines depth, structure and elegance and represents a modern interpretation of classic Shiraz wines from Australia. The grapes are harvested at optimum physiological ripeness to preserve freshness, fruit intensity and balance and to avoid over-ripening.
The vines thrive on podzolic soils with a proportion of clay and ferruginous slate, which gives the wine a clear mineral character, a precise tannin structure and solid ageing potential. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in cement or stainless steel tanks. A maceration period of two to three weeks ensures the targeted extraction of structure and tannins. The subsequent maturation in neutral tanks preserves the varietal character of the Shiraz, without the influence of wood, and emphasises the pure fruit, the spice and the origin of this Shiraz. After around twelve months of ageing, the wine is bottled and presents itself as an authentic, clearly defined Shiraz red wine from Australia with a balanced style.
Tasting Note
In the glass, this Shiraz is a brilliant dark ruby red colour. The nose reveals a deep aromatic profile with black fruits and spicy pepper notes. On the palate, the wine is smooth and juicy with silky, elegant tannins. The finish is harmonious and balanced with a pleasantly long-lasting structure.
The Tournon Mathilda Shiraz 2023 is a versatile food companion that goes particularly well with air-dried ham, savoury bacon or braised beef. Its structure harmonises perfectly with hearty meat dishes, braised beef, lamb stew or BBQ dishes with roasted flavours. This Australian Shiraz also comes into its own with savoury stews, peppery, spicy dishes or mature hard cheese. The wine is also ideal as a solo wine, a characterful red wine with depth and elegance that is perfect for both food and conscious enjoyment.
