Octomore EDITION: 16.1 Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Release 2025 59.3% ABV 0.7l online kaufen
The Octomore EDITION: 16.1 Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Release 2025 59.3% comes from the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay and, as the 16.1, once again forms the stylistic starting point for the respective Octomore series. The bottling is produced from 100 per cent Concerto barley from the Scottish mainland, which was malted to a phenol content of 101.4 PPM. The whisky was distilled in 2019 from the 2018 harvest and subsequently matured for five years exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks. This choice of cask enhances the distillery’s distinct, powerful character and allows the heavily peated style to shine through in its purest form. Despite the high intensity of smoke, the expression is remarkably precise, combining peaty smoke with fruit, malty sweetness and maritime freshness.
With an alcohol content of 59.3%, the Octomore 16.1 Release 2025 is intense, complex and, at the same time, astonishingly elegant. Salted caramel, honeydew melon and apricot meet toffee, chocolate and coconut, whilst cinnamon, star anise and smoked paprika add further spice. An earthy minerality, sea salt, iodine and delicate floral notes of heather and chamomile lend the whisky additional depth. As a 5-year-old, heavily peated Islay single malt matured in first-fill bourbon casks, the 16.1 serves as a benchmark for the more experimental releases in the range and impressively demonstrates how smoke, sweetness, fruit and maritime elements can be blended together.
Tasting Note
Colour: Spun Gold.
Nose: Maritime and complex, with orchard fruits and delicate peat smoke, accompanied by dried heather, camomile, vanilla and toasted almonds, as well as cedar, smoked paprika and a hint of iodine.
Palate: Smooth yet intense peaty smoke with salted caramel, honeydew melon and apricot, complemented by malty sweetness, cinnamon, star anise, sea salt, toffee, chocolate and coconut.
Finish: Long-lasting and smoky, with black pepper, toffee and sea salt, as well as an earthy, mineral note.
The Octomore 16.1 is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the fruity, smoky and spicy notes. Dark chocolate, smoked meat, strong hard cheese or roasted almonds pair particularly well with the combination of peaty smoke, toffee and sea salt. Desserts featuring apricot, caramel or coconut also provide a fitting contrast to the smoky intensity. Within an Octomore tasting, the 16.1 is particularly well-suited as a reference bottling to highlight the differences compared to the more experimental cask and barley variants of the 16 series.
