Patridom 12 Selección Exclusiva Spirit Drink is a premium rum-based spirit from the Dominican Republic, produced by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos. The producer processes sugar cane grown on its own plantations, thereby ensuring that the raw materials used originate entirely from the Dominican Republic. The spirit is based on a distillate produced from sugar cane molasses. The Selección Exclusiva forms part of Patridom’s core range, comprising four bottlings, and is characterised in particular by its long tropical cask ageing. As the product is explicitly designated as a ‘spirit drink’, it should not be listed in the shop as rum, but consistently as a rum-based spirit.


The Patridom Selección Exclusiva is made using distillates that have matured for between six and twelve years in the tropical climate of the Dominican Republic. Both American and French oak casks are used in the process. The combination of different ages and types of oak gives the bottling its multi-layered character. At 40 per cent in the 0.7 l bottle, this rum-based spirit combines Dominican sugar cane, molasses and several years of tropical cask ageing. The age statement ‘12’ in the product name therefore refers to a blend of components aged for between six and twelve years and should not be understood as meaning that all components have been aged for a full twelve years.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber.

Nose: Inviting and opulent, with hints of a warm bakery, fresh pastries, fruit cake and custard, accompanied by plenty of vanilla and caramel.

Palate: Full-bodied and dense with brown sugar, vanilla and coconut, yet pleasantly smooth and well-balanced.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious with sweet notes of vanilla, caramel and subtle oak.

The Patridom 12 Selección Exclusiva Spirit Drink is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C or over a large ice cube. Its character, characterised by vanilla, brown sugar and coconut, pairs well with dark chocolate, caramelised nuts, coconut desserts or fruit cakes. The spirit can also be used to make a robust Old Fashioned or other spirit-forward drinks. As a digestif after a meal, it is ideal for quiet moments of indulgence and for tasting matured rum-based spirits from the Dominican Republic.
