The Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2024 13.5% is a dry organic red wine from Tuscany, produced in the historic wine-growing region of Montepulciano. The blend consists of 80% Sangiovese – traditionally known as Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano – and 20% Merlot. The grapes are organically grown and thrive on loamy soils characterised by galestro. Following the harvest, temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration take place for around 10–12 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for around eight months, with part of the batch maturing in stainless steel tanks and part in used barriques. This deliberately restrained oak ageing preserves the Sangiovese’s youthful and fruit-driven character.

In the 0.75 l bottle, the Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2024 combines regional grape variety tradition with an accessible, modern style. With just 2.39 g/l of residual sugar, the wine is distinctly dry; the total acidity is 5.85 g/l. This organically produced vintage is vegan and, with appropriate storage, has ageing potential until at least 2030. With 91 points from James Suckling, the vintage has also achieved a strong international rating. As a Rosso di Montepulciano DOC made from Sangiovese and Merlot, it offers a versatile introduction to Poliziano’s world of red wines and is suitable both as a food companion and for simple enjoyment of a Tuscan red wine.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano 2024 displays an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals notes of sour cherries, dark forest fruits and blood orange, accompanied by red liquorice, subtle herbaceous and floral nuances, and a mineral hint of wet rock. On the palate, this red wine is dense and focused, with medium body, a velvety texture and subtly integrated tannins. The finish is crisp, balanced and long-lasting.

The Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2024 should be served at around 16–18 °C. It pairs particularly well with pasta al ragù, lasagne, roast poultry, mushroom dishes and Mediterranean vegetables. Its combination of fruit, acidity and moderate tannins also makes it a suitable accompaniment to grilled lamb, porchetta or medium-strength cheeses.
