The Balvenie 12 Years Old Double Wood 40% ABV 0.7 l + GB is an outstanding single malt Scotch whisky from the historic Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region. It is one of the distillery’s classics and embodies masterful craftsmanship, evident at every stage of production – from growing its own barley and traditional malting to cask maturation and blending.


This twelve-year-old single malt owes its name and exceptional depth to maturation in two different types of cask. It was first matured for over twelve years in ex-bourbon casks made of American oak, which impart gentle notes of vanilla and honey. This was followed by a further maturation of around nine months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, during which rich, fruity aromas and a warm spiciness developed. Finally, the whisky is blended for about three months in large oak casks – known as ‘tuns’ – to harmoniously combine its various cask components.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose: A gentle aroma of fruity Oloroso sherry, sweet fruits, creamy vanilla and aromatic honey.

Palate: Silky smooth with notes of spicy nuts, warming cinnamon, sherry sweetness and subtle oak spice.

Finish: Elegant, harmonious and long-lasting, with lingering sweetness and delicate spice.

The Balvenie 12 Years Old Double Wood reveals its full flavour profile when enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to bring out the delicate sherry and vanilla notes. It pairs superbly with roasted almonds, crème brûlée, mild cheese or dark chocolate. It is also ideal as an accompaniment to a relaxing evening or a fine cigar.
