Nikka FRONTIER Blended Whisky 48% vol. 0.5 l + GB is a modern release from the renowned Japanese whisky distillery Nikka Whisky and was first launched in Japan in 2024 to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary. This edition is intended as a tribute to the pioneering spirit of the company’s founder, Masataka Taketsuru, who is regarded as the father of the Japanese whisky industry. Taketsuru travelled to Scotland as early as 1918 to learn the traditional art of whisky-making. Upon his return to Japan, he combined this knowledge with Japanese precision, thereby laying the foundations for authentic Japanese whisky production, which is now recognised worldwide. The Nikka Frontier Blended Whisky builds on this very tradition, combining classic craftsmanship with a modern, accessible style.


The basis of this Japanese blended whisky is a high proportion of peated single malt from the Yoichi Distillery, Nikka’s first distillery. In total, the blend consists of more than 51% various malt whiskies, giving the whisky a pronounced malty depth and aromatic complexity. The composition is complemented by the distillery’s own Coffey grain whiskies, which provide additional balance and a smooth texture. Nikka Frontier Whisky is bottled at a robust 48% ABV, without chill filtration, which helps to preserve its natural character particularly well. The striking 500 ml bottle emphasises the modern style of the bottling. The design incorporates the ‘N’ from the Nikka logo and features a relief motif on the back of the Shimenawa, a traditional Japanese rice-straw rope tied to shrines, which references Taketsuru’s family roots in sake brewing.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Fruity jam notes, malt, subtle vanilla and a delicate hint of smoke.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced with malty sweetness, ripe fruit and pleasantly integrated smokiness.

Finish: Medium-length and smooth with sweet oak notes, gentle spice and a slightly smoky aftertaste.

Nikka Frontier Blended Whisky is ideal for enjoying neat, to fully experience its balance of malt, fruit and subtle smokiness. This Japanese blended whisky is also excellent served on the rocks or as a highball – a serving style particularly popular in Japan, served with soda and ice.
