In the 18th century, Severo Arango Y Ferro was a successful trader of rum and other exotic spirits made from sugar cane. As he had a powerful character and an imposing appearance, he was nicknamed Dictador by the local population, from which the brand's current name is derived.
In 1913, around 180 years after Ferro arrived in Colombia, Don Julio Arango y Parra, one of his descendants, founded the Destilería Colombiana. This is still responsible for the production of Dictador rum to this day.
Don Julio studied the history of his ancestor and the production processes for rum production just as meticulously. He had no less a goal than to become the best rum producer in the entire Caribbean.
Dictador Rum was able to make a name for itself early on thanks to its excellent quality. However, the brand only made the leap overseas in 2009, but once the door to Europe had been opened, Dictador Rum quickly established itself here too as a producer of conscientiously produced, delicious rums.
Dictador rum is best enjoyed neat or with a few ice cubes in a glass.
For lovers of fine rums, Dictador rum is a wonderful drop that is ideal for pure enjoyment. It is smooth and round and goes well with any occasion.
The rum is produced and bottled in Colombia, in the Cartagena region by Destilería Colombiana. The name “Dictador Rum” is steeped in history. In 1751, Severo Arango y Ferro arrived in the aforementioned region. He had the task of advancing the negotiations between Spain and the colonies founded there. As he was a very assertive and ambitious man, he was quickly given the nickname “Dictador”. He also had a great fondness for sweet and elegant spirits, which led him to quickly discover rum. He did not want to leave it at a preference and develop a business idea from it.
His descendant Don Julio Arango y Parra finally founded the Destilería Colombiana and professional rum production could begin. Dictador rum is characterized in particular by its wonderful smoothness. It is a rum for special occasions. Enjoy it with a good cigar or a high-quality dark chocolate. Nevertheless, cocktails can also benefit from the complexity of this rum. Try a refreshing Daiquieri or a classic old-fashioned rum. Dictador rum offers the perfect taste for every connoisseur.
