Solist Series & Single Cask Bottlings Particularly noteworthy is the Solist Series, in which all whiskies are offered at cask strength and as single cask bottlings. Each bottle comes from a single cask and displays its own unique characteristics – an authentic, unadulterated taste experience. Due to their limited availability, these whiskies are particularly popular with collectors and connoisseurs.

Non-chill-filtered whisky – natural quality Many premium bottlings – particularly those in the Solist series – are non-chill-filtered. This preserves essential oils and delicate aromas that might be lost during chill filtration. The result: a fuller-bodied texture, a more intense flavour and a more authentic whisky experience, just as it was originally intended.

Yushan Taiwanese Whisky – Quality from the High Mountains Yushan isan up-and-coming brand from Taiwan, named after the island’s highest mountain. Produced at the Nantou Distillery, Yushan stands for artisanal precision, clean lines and smooth aromas. The whiskies are matured in carefully selected bourbon and sherry casks and impress with their light sweetness, floral notes and gentle spiciness. Yushan Whisky is ideal for those new to the world of Taiwanese whisky – without compromising on complexity and depth.

The Beginnings Whisky production in Taiwan began relatively late. For decades , alcohol production was a state monopoly, which prevented the establishment of new distilleries. It was only with the liberalisation of the market in the early 2000s that independent producers such as the Kavalan Distillery were able to be founded. In 2008, Kavalan launched the first Taiwanese whisky – the starting point for an unprecedented success story.

Rise to World Class Taiwan’s subtropical climate, with high humidity and constant temperatures, has a significant impact on maturation: whiskies develop much faster and more intensely here than in cooler regions. The so-called ‘Angels’ Share’ – the natural evaporation that occurs during storage – is correspondingly higher, leading to a greater concentration of aromas. These climatic conditions result in complex, deeply matured whiskies in a comparatively short time.

Fruity aromas Taiwanese whiskies stand out for their intense fruity notes – mango, pineapple, papaya and tropical citrus fruits lend them a vibrant, exotic character that delights the palate.

Complexity and depth Added to this are vanilla, honey, caramel and spices such as cinnamon or nutmeg. This aromatic diversity ensures a multi-layered, long-lasting taste experience.

Variety through cask maturation Another key factor in quality is maturation in different casks. Alongside classic bourbon casks , sherry, wine, rum and brandy casks are also used. These impart additional depth, fruitiness and spice to the whiskies – each type of cask contributes its own unique flavours.
