Description
Description
The Grander Absente is a high-quality French absinthe characterised by its strong alcohol structure, authentic herbal composition and traditional production. With a full 69% alcohol content by volume in a generous 1-litre bottle, this bottling is aimed at connoisseurs who appreciate the classic absinthe style in its powerful and aromatically dense form. It is produced in Provence - the historic centre for absinthe - according to a recipe based on the originals from the late 19th century.
The recipe is based on a variety of traditional botanicals, including wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), aniseed, fennel and other aromatic herbs. These are macerated using the classic method and then distilled to finely balance the complex flavours. The distinctly bitter wormwood flavour is characteristic, combined with a spicy, slightly sweet aniseed note. The high alcohol content is typical of authentic absinthes and ensures that the flavours develop particularly intensively - especially when prepared in the classic way with water.
Grander Absente is inspired by the so-called "Grüne Fee", as absinthe was known in the days of artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh. Today, it is making a stylish comeback as a classic ritual drink, creative cocktail ingredient or collector's item.
Tasting Note
Colour: Bright emerald green.
Nose: Intense aroma of aniseed, fennel and wormwood with fine herbal notes and a subtle sweetness.
Flavour: Complex and strong with dominant aniseed and fennel aromas, accompanied by a slight bitterness from the wormwood. Notes of lemon balm and mint lend freshness.
Finish: Langs, spicy and slightly bitter with lingering herbal and liquorice notes.
The Grander Absente is traditionally enjoyed after the classic absinthe ceremony: This involves pouring a small amount of absinthe into a glass, placing a perforated spoon with a lump of sugar on top and slowly letting ice-cold water drip over it until the absinthe takes on a milky, cloudy, opalescent colour - this effect is known as the louche effect.
It is also ideal for cocktails such as Death in the Afternoon (with champagne) or the classic Sazerac, where it serves as an aromatic base. In culinary terms, it harmonises particularly well with dark chocolate, spicy cheese or Mediterranean tapas, which complement its herbaceous flavours perfectly. An intense experience for connoisseurs who appreciate the authentic flavour of real absinthe.
