Founded in 1826 by James Henderson, the Pulteney distillery, named after the then newly established neighbourhood of Pulteneytown in Wick, is one of the most northerly distilleries in Scotland. Its unique location, accessible only by sea, shaped its history: barley arrived by ship and whisky left the distillery at the hands of the workers, who were also herring fishermen.

A major modernisation took place in 1958 under J&G Stodart Ltd, with the old floor maltings giving way to today's visitor centre. After various company takeovers, the distillery finally ended up with Inver House Distillers, who took it over in 1995. A new era began with the launch of Old Pulteney 12 Years Old in 1997.

Today, far removed from its past as a herring fishing harbour, the Pulteney distillery remains a proud part of Wick. Under the direction of Malcolm Waring, the dedicated team produces around 900,000 litres of single malt Scotch whisky every year.

The Old Pulteney Vintage 2006 is a meisterwerk of the art of distillation and a tribute to Scotland's centuries-old whisky tradition, distilled from select Scottish barley. Renowned manager Malcolm Waring places the highest value on quality and authenticity in its production. This whisky is matured in American ex-bourbon casks, which are personally selected by Malcolm Waring to create the unique flavour that Old Pulteney lovers appreciate.

The maturation in these oak casks enables a harmonious combination between the high-quality Scotch whisky and the influential flavours of the casks.

Tasting Note

Colour: Vintage gold.

Nose: Elegant, sweet, fresh, melting toffee, creamy vanilla, oily lemons, notes of fresh sea air.

Flavour: Sweet, intense, honey, lemons, crème brulée, coconuts, green apples.
