Tasting Note

Colour: Deep mahogany with copper reflections.

Nose: Intense and multi-layered with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and fine spices. Subtle sherry notes blend with old leather, tobacco and exotic woods.

Flavour: Full-bodied, velvety and deep with a perfect balance of ripe plums, sultanas, walnuts and a hint of mocha. Notes of cloves, oak and a hint of fine leather round off the profile.

Langs: Very long, complex and warming with a mixture of sweet dried fruit, dark chocolate and a subtle smokiness.

A whisky of this class deserves to be enjoyed neat - ideally at room temperature and in a high-quality nosing glass to fully develop its multi-layered flavours. A few drops of water can help to open up the depths of the flavours even further.

In culinary terms, this 45-year-old Macduff harmonises perfectly with dark chocolate (70% cocoa or more), mature Stilton cheese or roasted hazelnuts. This whisky also reveals its full elegance in combination with a fine cigar.
