Mortlach Distillery, founded in 1823, is one of the oldest and most renowned distilleries in Scotland’s Speyside region. Known as ‘The Beast of Dufftown’, Mortlach has made a name for itself with its uniquely complex and full-bodied single malts. The distillery uses an unusual 2.81-fold distillation process, which gives the whiskies their characteristic depth and complexity.

In 2018, Mortlach introduced the Dufftown Trio, comprising a 12-, 16- and 20-year-old whisky. Mortlach 16 Years Old Distiller’s Dram is a robust, multi-faceted single malt that draws on the characteristic style of its ‘ancestors’. Unlike the 12-year-old Mortlach, which matures in a blend of sherry and bourbon casks, this Mortlach 16 Years Old is matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks. The number 2.81 on the label refers to Mortlach’s special distillation process, in which the whisky is distilled 2.81 times. This process, also known as ‘The Way’, uses six stills, with one-fifth of the distillate being distilled a third time in the small ‘Wee Witchie’ still.

Colour: Amber.

Nose: Berry, earthy, spices, fruit.

Palate: Full-bodied, leather, apricots, honey, dark berries, caramel cream.
