The Hatozaki PURE MALT Small Batch Japanese Whisky 46% vol. 0.7 l + GB is an exquisite bottling from Japan, produced at the historic Kaikyō Distillery. Named after the Hatozaki Lighthouse – Japan’s oldest stone lighthouse – this bottling symbolises guidance, consistency and quality. As a Pure Malt or Blended Malt, it comprises exclusively a blend of various single malt whiskies, with no grain whisky, which lends it a particular depth and elegance.


Only selected malts are used for the Hatozaki Pure Malt Small Batch, which are matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks, sherry casks and rare Mizunara oak casks. This variety of casks gives it a complex spectrum of flavours: Bourbon casks provide vanilla and sweetness, sherry casks add fruit and spice, whilst Japanese Mizunara oak contributes depth and individuality with exotic woody notes and subtle spice. The whisky is bottled at a robust 46% ABV, allowing its flavours to unfold with particular intensity. Each batch is produced in small batches, typically comprising fewer than 20 casks, which underlines its exclusivity.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Fruity and well-balanced, with aromas of dried fruit, honey, vanilla and a hint of smoke.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, characterised by sweet malt, ripe fruit, delicate spice, caramel and subtle oaky notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, warm and harmonious, with a sweet, fruity aftertaste and gentle oak spice.

The Hatozaki Pure Malt Small Batch is ideal for enjoying neat, which allows its cask complexity to shine through best. A few drops of water can reveal additional nuances. It pairs particularly well with grilled meat, sushi, strong cheese or dark chocolate. It also offers an impressive tasting experience when enjoyed with a medium-strength cigar.
