The Hunter Laing Scarabus 10 Years Old Islay Single Malt is a powerful and complex whisky that embodies the rugged and wild flavours of the island of Islay. Named after an area of the island whose name, ‘Scarabus’, translates as ‘rocky place’, this whisky reflects both the geographical character and the history of Islay. The bottle and its designs were inspired by John Francis Campbell, a Scottish scholar and author, and offer a fascinating insight into the island’s traditions.

The Scarabus 10 Years Old is matured for at least 10 years in a combination of refill, ex-bourbon and American virgin oak casks, lending it impressive complexity and depth. The result is an Islay single malt characterised by its typical sweet peaty notes, whilst also surprising with an extra layer of complexity. With an alcohol content of 46% ABV, this whisky offers a powerful yet balanced blend of peaty smoke, sweet and spicy flavours.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Sweet Islay peat smoke with aromas of vanilla, caramel and dried fruit, accompanied by subtle notes of wood and spice.

Palate: Full-bodied with intense notes of sweet peat, smoke, spices and a gentle vanilla sweetness. A hint of fruitiness and oak round off the tasting experience.

Finish: Long-lasting and warm, with a hint of smoke, dried fruit and a subtle spiciness.

The Hunter Laing Scarabus 10 Years Old is ideal for enjoying neat, to fully appreciate its complex flavours. It pairs perfectly with smoked cheese, grilled steak or caramelised nuts, which bring out its peaty and smoky notes. Alternatively, it can be used as the base for sophisticated whisky cocktails such as a Rob Roy or a Whisky Sour.
