Kanekou Okinawa Blended Whisky is an exceptional Japanese blended whisky, 43% ABV, in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a high-quality gift box. It is produced by the Shinzato Distillery, Okinawa’s oldest family-run distillery, which was founded as far back as 1846. For seven generations, the distillery has followed its guiding principle of ‘Wajo Ryoshu’, which translates as ‘good alcohol, created in the spirit of harmony’. This philosophy is also reflected in Kanekou Whisky, which was crafted by Master Blender Naoya Shinzato from malt whisky, wheat whisky and Ryukyu rice whisky. Only malt and wheat whiskies aged for at least three years, as well as Ryukyu rice whisky matured for over eight years in sherry casks, are used in the blend. Maturation in Okinawa’s warm, subtropical climate accelerates the development of the cask and gives the whisky its smooth, harmonious character.


The name Kanekou recalls the historical name of the Shinzato Distillery during the Ryukyu Kingdom (1429–1879). Even back then, the distillery was one of the first officially licensed producers of traditional awamori, a rice spirit from Okinawa with a history stretching back over 500 years. With the Kanekou Okinawa Blended Whisky, the distillery combines this cultural heritage with modern Japanese whisky-making expertise to create a well-balanced whisky with a subtropical character and distinctive aromas.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber.

Nose: Nectar, sweet cream, citrus fruits, pineapple and other tropical fruits.

Palate: Citrus fruits, ginger sweets, subtle minerality and a well-balanced sweetness.

Finish: Long-lasting with a pleasant sweetness and a harmonious aftertaste.
