Masahiro Distillery was founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, whose father, Shozoku Higa, was the master chef of the old Ryukyu kingdom.

With the help of Shozoku Higa's reputation and connections, the distillery was granted a licence to produce the traditional Okinawan spirit "awamori" and has since established itself as one of Okinawa's oldest and largest distilleries.

Shozoku's passion for cooking is still reflected today in the Masahiro Distillery's company philosophy of producing only the best spirits.

The Masahiro 12 Years Old is distilled from 100% malted barley. This whisky spends over 11 years in ex-bourbon hoghead casks made from American oak and matures for a further 12 months in Oloroso sherry casks.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light amber.

Nose: Refreshing, fruity, citrus aroma, notes of dried apricots, plums, nuts and honey.

Flavour: Juicy, fruity, sweet, notes of candied fruit, malt syrup, almonds and toasted bread.

Finish: Langs on the palate.
