The Shin blended whisky is produced in Niigata, a major port city in Japan at the mouth of the Shinano River. Niigata is known for its three white treasures - snow, rice and sake - and is a centre of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The name "Shin" stands for integrity, a principle that is deeply rooted in the Samurai ethos and forms the basis for this whisky.

This whisky is created from a careful selection of malt and grain whiskies that are matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Under the direction of Master Distiller Ken Usami, the whiskies are married in a special cask made from Mizunara oak, a Japanese oak species that gives the whisky a distinctive woody complexity and spicy flavours. The whisky is bottled without artificial colouring, which emphasises its natural purity and authentic quality.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold with warm, reddish reflections.

Nose: Complex aromas of fresh citrus fruits, spiced oak, cinnamon and a hint of dried berries. The Mizunara oak brings subtle notes of coconut and spiced herbs.

Flavour: Full-bodied and harmonious, with a balance of fruity notes of plum, cherry and pear, combined with the warm oak spice of the Mizunara oak.

Finish: Langs and pleasant, with a softer oak structure, caramel notes and a slightly sweet, spicy final note.

The Shin Blended Whisky is ideal for drinking neat or with a drop of water to intensify the complexity of the flavours. It also unfolds its multi-layered flavours perfectly as a base for whisky cocktails such as a Whisky Sour or Old Fashioned. This whisky goes particularly well with mature cheese, smoked salmon or a fruity dessert such as tarte tatin, allowing its woody and fruity notes to come into their own.
