The Balvenie 16 Years Old French Oak is an exceptional whisky from the long-established Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky in Scotland since 1892. Known for its dedication to craftsmanship, the distillery still preserves many traditional methods in its production process. For example, the barley is still grown on site and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor, which is a rarity in the modern whisky industry. In addition, the in-house team of coopers maintain and repair the casks to ensure the highest quality throughout the maturation process.

The Balvenie 16 Years Old French Oak is characterised by a special cask maturation process. This whisky is first matured in classic oak casks before being transferred to Pineau des Charentes casks from the French vineyards for the finish. These casks are extremely rare in the whisky industry and give the whisky a distinctive, complex flavour. The combination of traditional maturation and the innovative finish clearly sets the Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak apart from other bottlings and ensures a unique flavour experience.

With an alcohol content of 47.6% vol., this whisky is powerful and intense, with a special balance between fruity and woody notes, which are further enhanced by the finish in French casks.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with golden reflections.

Nose: A combination of fresh citrus, ripe honey and vanilla, accompanied by a subtle oak spice and a hint of dried fruit.

Palate: Full-bodied and smooth, with a harmonious blend of fruity flavours of apples, pears and plums, accompanied by a light oak note and warm spices. The finish adds a slight sweetness and complexity from the French oak.

Finish: Langs and round, with a pleasant oak spiciness accompanied by a fruity sweetness and a subtle vanilla note.

The Balvenie 16 Years Old French Oak is perfect to enjoy neat or with a small drop of water to further develop the flavours. It is an excellent accompaniment to mature cheeses such as Comté or Gouda, and harmonises equally well with grilled meat, BBQ dishes or dark chocolate. For a particularly intense flavour experience, this whisky can also be paired with fruity desserts such as apple tart or crème brûlée.
