The Tomatin Distillery, located on the eastern edge of the Monadhliath Mountains, offers perfect conditions for whisky production. The water used to make Tomatin whisky comes from the Alt-na-Frith Burn, which flows through the nearby hills and is known for its purity.

The Tomatin Distillery's Portuguese Collection impressively demonstrates the influence of various Portuguese wine casks on the maturation of the whiskies. This collection comprises three bottlings: Madeira, Moscatel and Port. The Highland whisky, which was distilled on 8 September 2006, initially spent eight years in traditional Scottish whisky oak casks.

From 23 April 2015, an additional seven years of maturation took place in Tawny Port, Moscatel de Setúbal and Madeira wine casks, giving the whisky a special depth and complexity. This innovative maturation combines traditional Scottish methods with international influence and emphasises the craftsmanship of the Tomatin Distillery. The Portuguese Collection offers a unique tasting experience that reflects the diversity and creativity of the distillery.
