The Deanston Distillery, founded in 1965 in a converted 18th-century cotton mill, began producing whisky in 1966. The first products were launched in 1971 under the name Old Bannockburn. After the distillery was taken over by Invergordon Distillers in 1972, the first single malt was launched under the Deanston brand in 1974. The distillery closed temporarily in 1982, but was reopened by Burn Stewart Distillers in 1991 and has continued whisky production ever since.

Deanston whisky is produced in the historic buildings of a former cotton mill dating from 1785, which is characterised by a unique historic atmosphere. A distinctive feature of this whisky is its finishing in casks that previously contained agave tequila from the highlands of Jalisco, which gives it an unmistakable aroma. This special finishing process lends Deanston whisky an exotic note and sets it apart from other single malts.
