Takamaka EXTRA NOIR Rum 43% ABV 0.7 l + gift box is an expressive rum from the Seychelles, produced at the renowned Trois Frères Distillery on the island of Mahé. The distillery was founded by brothers Bernard and Richard d’Offay and is located in the historic village of La Plaine St. André. As part of the high-quality St. André Premium range, this Seychelles rum stands for artisanal production, authentic style and clear provenance. This premium rum is produced from molasses, a by-product of sugar cane processing, making it stylistically a classic molasses rum rather than a rhum agricole. Distillation takes place using a combination of pot stills and column stills, combining the robust, aromatic distillates from the pot still with the lighter, more elegant components from the column still. Takamaka Extra Noir is also bottled without added sugar or chill filtration and presented in a high-quality gift box.
Takamaka Extra Noir Rum is a balanced blend of pot still and column still distillates, which mature in two different types of cask. It is aged in ex-bourbon casks made of American oak as well as in new French oak casks. This combination lends the dark rum vanilla and a pleasant sweetness from the bourbon casks, as well as spice, structure and fine tannins from the French oak. At 43% ABV, this rum from Mahé is full-bodied, spicy and versatile.
Tasting Note
Colour: Dark mahogany.
Nose: Spicy and aromatic, with vanilla, caramel, dark fruits and subtle woody notes.
Palate: Full-bodied and rounded, with molasses, spices, dried fruit, oak and a subtle sweetness.
Finish: Long and warm, with spice, wood and dark fruits, lingering.
Takamaka Extra Noir Rum pairs perfectly with grilled meats such as beef steak, BBQ ribs or lamb, as its spicy and woody notes complement the roasted flavours beautifully. This rum from the Seychelles also pairs beautifully with spicy prawns, Caribbean-inspired dishes or rice with coconut milk. It also reveals its aromatic depth with desserts such as dark chocolate, chocolate cake or caramelised bananas. It is particularly suitable served neat or on the rocks, as well as a premium base for a Dark ’n’ Stormy, rum and cola or a rum Old Fashioned, whenever a robust and characterful rum is required.
