Description
Description
Leo Hillinger is a visionary entrepreneur and winemaker whose passion for viticulture has brought him international recognition. His winery, which today covers an impressive 100 hectares of vineyards, is known for its excellent wines not only in Austria, but worldwide. These wines find their way to over 20 countries around the world, which emphasises the global presence and popularity of the Hillinger brand. Hillinger's focus on sustainable cultivation practices and organic production contributes significantly to the exceptional quality and purity of its wines.
After years of training in Europe and California, Hillinger bought 12 hectares of vineyards, laying the foundations for his successful winery in Jois, which opened in 2004. The company expanded to include several wine shops and bars throughout Austria and a long-standing business relationship with the Constantia Glen winery in South Africa. In 2012, Hillinger was honoured by Ernst & Young as "Entrepreneur of The Year", underlining its outstanding role in the wine industry.
Hillinger Blaufränkisch Leithaberg is made from 100% carefully selected Blaufränkisch grapes, which are grown organically. This wine is vinified dry and comes from a selective hand harvest. After the harvest, fermentation takes place in open fermentation vats over a period of around four weeks. The wine is then aged for around 22 months in barriques and large 3,000-litre wooden barrels, which gives it its exceptional structure and complexity.
This red wine has an impressive ageing potential of around 10 years and is sealed with a natural cork. To experience the full flavour spectrum of this wine, it is recommended to decant it one hour before drinking.
Tasting Note
Deep ruby red with a violet rim in the glass. The nose reveals fruity aromas of blackberries, black cherries and ripe strawberries, complemented by spicy notes and Mediterranean herbs, dark pepper and cloves. On the palate, the wine delights with spicy notes, intense berry flavours and fine roasted aromas, supported by a rich tannin. The finish is long-lasting and refreshing.
