The Platzer Chardonnay Vulkanland Steiermark DAC 2024 is a characterful white wine that embodies the mineral depth and finesse of the Styrian Vulkanland. Produced by the Platzer Winery, a family-run estate based in Tieschen in south-eastern Styria, this DAC wine epitomises the delicate style and terroir-driven vinification of this up-and-coming wine region. The vines thrive on medium-textured, lime-free cultivated soils composed of weathered volcanic rock – a geological treasure that lends the wines of this region an unmistakable character and elegance.

Vinification follows the classic Styrian Linie: temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in stainless-steel tanks ensure that the fruit and freshness take centre stage. The wine is bottled with a practical screw cap, which preserves its freshness perfectly and makes it an ideal accompaniment to meals, whether for everyday enjoyment or festive occasions. With an alcohol content of 13% vol. and ageing potential until at least 2028, this Chardonnay demonstrates versatility, character and remarkable ageing potential.

Tasting Note

The Platzer Chardonnay impresses right from the nose with its abundance of exotic fruit: aromas of ripe papaya and mandarin give the wine an inviting opening. On the palate, it delights with a delicate fruitiness, lovely body and an extremely pleasing mouthfeel. The finish is long-lasting, smooth and carried by elegant fruit – a Chardonnay that leaves a lasting impression both on its own and as an accompaniment to food.
