Description
Description
In 1975, Gérard Bertrand began harvesting grapes at the Château de Villemajou in the Corbières region, where he discovered his passion for wine. Over the course of twelve years, he honed his skills alongside his father, Georges Bertrand, until the fourth generation finally took up the mantle. Following the tragic death of his father in 1987, Gérard Bertrand took over the family business at the Domaine de Villemajou and founded the Gérard Bertrand wine company. The Gérard Bertrand Group comprises 16 vineyards and 16 châteaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, covering a total of 850 hectares. Some of the hand-harvested grapes are aged in 225-litre Bordeaux barrels, whilst the rest are stored in stainless-steel tanks.
The Côte des Roses, a tribute to the Mediterranean way of life, comes from the renowned Gérard Bertrand estate in the Languedoc region, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast to the Spanish border. The area benefits from a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, which creates ideal conditions for viticulture. The bottle design, created by a young designer from the French École Boulle, features a base shaped like a rose blossom.
The grapes for the Gérard Bertrand Sauvignon Blanc are harvested with precision to ensure none of the wonderful aromas that characterise it are lost. Its distinctive bouquet of citrus fruits, minerality and French oak lends it its unique character. The wine is aged in both stainless-steel tanks and large oak casks. This wine has an ageing potential of around 10 years and is sealed with a glass stopper to preserve its quality and freshness.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Gérard Bertrand Côte des Roses Sauvignon Blanc displays a pale straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, intense notes of gooseberry, citrus fruits, fresh grass, passion fruit and green apple unfold. On the palate, the wine is crisp, fresh and lively, with an invigorating acidity, delicate minerality and a zesty, fruit-driven finish. A Sauvignon Blanc with Mediterranean flair and French sophistication.
This white wine pairs superbly with summer dishes such as goat’s cheese salad, grilled fish, sushi, oysters, light vegetable dishes or risotto with asparagus and lemon zest. Even on its own as an aperitif on the terrace, with brunch or light tapas, the Côte des Roses Sauvignon Blanc impresses with its style and freshness. Serve at 8–10 °C in a white wine glass – for the perfect moment of enjoyment.
