The LAGG Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky ex-Palo Cortado Sherry Cask 56.2% Vol. 0.7 l + GB is a powerful small batch bottling from the Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran in Scotland and is the world's first small batch edition from the distillery. Concerto barley is used for this characterful bottling, which is heavily peated in the drying process at around 50 ppm and thus characterises the distillery's distinctive, smoky house style. The barley is crushed after delivery and processed into a cloudy mash in the mash tun, which gives the subsequent distillate a particularly oily and strong texture. The subsequent fermentation with selected yeast strains and a carefully balanced fermentation period ensure the aromatic depth before the whisky is distilled twice in handmade copper stills.


Maturation begins in first-fill bourbon casks before the whisky is matured for around six months in ex-palo cortado sherry casks from Jerez. The rare palo cortado sherry is a particularly prized style that lies somewhere between amontillado and oloroso in terms of flavour. During maturation, it develops a unique combination of nutty dryness, caramelised sweetness and oxidative depth, which is also reflected in the whisky. This smoky single malt Scotch whisky is bottled at a strong 56.2% vol. without chill-filtration and without colouring, which ensures that its natural character is fully preserved. The result is an intense Icelandic single malt whisky that combines peat smoke, sherry cask flavours and complex spices in an impressive balance.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with amber reflections.

Nose: Earthy peat smoke, forest floor in autumn, smoked almonds, engine oil, plus sweet and nutty notes from the Palo Cortado cask and cocoa powder.

Flavour: Creamy and oily with polished wax, toffee, red fruits, campfire embers, salted caramel and strong espresso.

Finish: Langs with smoke, nuttiness, dark chocolate and spicy sherry notes.

The Lagg Palo Cortado Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky is ideal for pure enjoyment to fully experience its powerful combination of peat smoke, sherry cask flavours and spicy depth. This heavily peated single malt from the Isle of Arran harmonises particularly well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, strong cheese or smoked meat dishes.
