The GlenDronach Ode to the Dark Highland Single Malt is an opulent, deeply flavoured bottling that has been fully matured in outstanding Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and is bottled at 50.8%. This exceptional maturation gives the whisky a particularly dark, rich structure that takes the distillery's characteristic sherry style to a new level. The bottling combines several aromatic levels, which merge into a harmonious overall picture and impressively reflect the rich, full-bodied character of the distillery. The interplay of intense sweetness, dark fruit notes and a silky texture characterises this single malt, as does the high cask strength, which clearly emphasises its aromatic depth. The long maturation in Pedro Ximénez casks gives the whisky its striking black-garnet colour and a spectrum of aromas ranging from dark chocolate to roasted notes and luscious dried fruit. The aromatic structure develops layer by layer and is reminiscent of luxurious dessert notes, complemented by spicy facets and an elegant sherry flavour. This complexity makes the Ode to the Dark an impressive interpretation of The GlenDronach DNA, which is particularly appealing to lovers of intense, sherry-accentuated Highland whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark mahogany.

Nose: A composition of mocha, black cherry and dark chocolate, followed by crème brûlée, sultanas, brown sugar and Ingwerer.

Flavour: Velvety layers of espresso and crème caramel, plus black grapes and mint chocolate ganache.

Finish: Langs, deep and soft with dark sherry influences and a subtle sweetness.

This single malt harmonises perfectly with strong desserts such as dark chocolate tart, mocha crème or fig pastries, as its intensive sherry maturation finely supports these flavours. It makes an exciting, aromatically dense combination with mature blue cheese or nutty, spicy hard cheeses. It is also suitable for accompanying high-quality cigars, whose earthy and chocolaty flavours blend with its dark notes. Pure at room temperature or with a few drops of water, it unfolds its full depth, opens up its multi-layered flavours and remains present for a long time.
