The Douglas Laing Rock Island The Cologne Edition is a strictly limited special bottling from the popular Rock Island series by independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co. With an alcohol content of 48% vol. and bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle, this blended malt Scotch whisky is aimed at lovers of maritime whiskies as well as collectors of exclusive editions.


Like all bottlings in the Rock Island series, this edition also combines the typical island malts from Islay, Jura, An Orkney and Arran, which are characterised by their maritime freshness, fine smokiness and salty minerality. The whisky impresses with its multi-layered flavour, which ranges from salty breezes, gentle peat smoke, vanilla and malt sweetness to spicy oak notes. With the Cologne Edition, Douglas Laing honours the German whisky community and presents a bottling that is only available in limited quantities.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold.

Nose: Intense coastal character with sea air, peat smoke, salt and fresh citrus notes.

Flavour: Smoky, maritime and complex with bonfire, malt, sweet vanilla and a hint of spice.

Finish: Langs, smoky and fresh with a salty breeze.

Rock Island The Cologne Edition is ideal for pure enjoyment to experience the strong maritime style. With a few drops of water, additional nuances of sweetness and fruitiness can be released. It is an excellent culinary accompaniment to seafood, smoked fish, grilled meat or strong cheeses. It is also an excellent choice as an accompaniment to a cigar or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
