The Hillinger Small Hill Red 2022 is a wonderfully balanced and smooth red wine cuvée from Burgenland that impressively bears the signature of renowned Austrian winemaker Leo Hillinger. This carefully composed cuvée consists of 50% Merlot, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% St. Laurent - three grape varieties that complement each other in perfect harmony and lend the wine elegance, structure and depth.


The grapes come from the best vineyards around Jois in northern Burgenland, where the Pannonian climate with warm days and cool nights offers optimal ripening conditions. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, a small proportion (around 10%) is matured in used barrique barrels to give the wine additional roundness and fine roasted flavours. The result is a dry, velvety red wine with youthful fruit, soft tannins and a harmonious balance. The Hillinger Small Hill Red 2022 is a wine that impresses with its versatility and can be wonderfully combined with almost any food.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Small Hill Red is a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of dark berries such as blackberries and black cherries, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate and delicate spice in the background. The palate is soft, round and full-bodied, with juicy fruit, a pleasant structure and a harmonious finish.

This versatile Austrian red wine is an excellent accompaniment to pasta, savoury fish dishes, Mediterranean dishes, poultry or mild cheese. Thanks to its round structure and fruitiness, it is also ideal as an all-round companion for social occasions. The recommended drinking temperature is 16-18 °C, with a storage potential of around 3 years.
