The Polz Urbani Steiermark 2018 is an elegant, finely structured red wine cuvée from southern Styria that impressively reflects the high quality awareness and winemaking expertise of the renowned Polz winery. This cuvée of 50% Zweigelt, 25% Blaufränkisch and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon comes exclusively from the best Styrian vineyards, whose vines are between 12 and 25 years old. These deeply rooted vines can develop the complexity on the poor, mineral-rich soils of shell limestone and loam that gives this wine its unmistakable character.


Vinification is carried out with the utmost care: after a classic mash fermentation, the wine matures for 30 months in used barrique barrels, which gives it depth, structure and balance without the wood masking the fruit. With an alcohol content of 12.5% vol., the Polz Urbani is elegant, fresh and expressive at the same time - a red wine that emphasises finesse and drinking pleasure rather than power. The recommended drinking temperature is 14-16 °C, and it reaches its optimum drinking maturity by around 2026.

Tasting Note

The Polz Urbani 2018 is a light purple-red colour in the glass. The nose is dominated by aromas of red berries, cherries and sour cherries, accompanied by spicy notes, dark chocolate and a slightly earthy undertone. On the palate, the wine is fruity, juicy and harmonious, with animating tannins that lend structure and tension. The finish is elegant and persistent - a wine with a clear signature and fine minerality.

This Styrian red wine is a versatile accompaniment to pasta, veal, game birds, mushroom dishes and mild cheeses.
