Description
The Lochlea PLOUGHING EDITION Third Crop Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46% Vol. 0.7 l + GB is a limited edition special bottling from the young, up-and-coming Lochlea Distillery in Ayrshire, Scotland. This farm distillery stands for absolute transparency, regional origin and sustainable production, as it grows and processes its own barley in the surrounding fields. The Ploughing Edition is part of Lochlea's Seasonal Series, which reflects the four seasons and agricultural phases on the farm - in this case the ploughing of the fields in winter.
The Third Crop Edition symbolises the distillery's third harvest and stands for consistency and artisanal growth. This single malt was matured in an unusual combination of ex-islay and ex-bourbon casks, giving it an exciting interplay of smoky, spicy and sweet-vanilla flavours. With an alcohol content of 46% by volume and no chill-filtration or colouring, it is authentic, natural and full-bodied.
The Lochlea Distillery, which was once run by Robert Burns' family, expresses the combination of Scottish tradition and the modern art of distillation with this bottling. The whisky reflects the rugged beauty of winter in Ayrshire - powerful, grounded and elegant at the same time.
Tasting Note
Colour: Light gold with amber reflections.
Nose: Delicate smoke, fresh oak, sweet vanilla, honey and a hint of dried fruit.
Flavour: Creamy and full-bodied with notes of malt, vanilla, butterscotch, spicy oak and fine smoke.
Finish: Langs, harmonious with subtle peaty notes, vanilla sweetness and a hint of cinnamon.
The Lochlea Ploughing Edition Third Crop is ideal for pure enjoyment to fully experience its harmonious balance of sweetness and smoke. It develops particularly well at room temperature or with a drop of water. It is an ideal culinary accompaniment to grilled lamb, hearty beef or game dishes, as well as smoked salmon or flavoursome cheddar. For those with a sweet tooth, we recommend combining it with dark chocolate, orange confectionery or apple crumble. A winter whisky full of character that reflects every facet of Scotland's agriculture, craftsmanship and soul.
