Description
The K+K Kirnbauer DAS PHANTOM 2023 is the characteristic flagship of the Kirnbauer estate and is based on a Blaufränkisch-dominated cuvée, complemented by Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah. The grapes come from sites with heavy and sandy loam, which gives the cuvée structure, depth and a powerful foundation. Vinification initially takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques. The 18-month maturation in 225-litre barriques shapes the characteristic style of the Phantom, which has been one of the style-defining icons of Burgenland for decades. The 2023 vintage will be bottled as a magnum bottle (1.5 litres) and impressively combines power, elegance and ageing potential. The bottling date in April 2025 and the enormous ageing potential until 2042 underline the claim to create a long-lasting, complex red wine that fits harmoniously into the tradition of the estate.
The cuvée is made up of 37 per cent Blaufränkisch, 23 per cent Cabernet, 22 per cent Merlot, 15 per cent Cabernet Franc and 3 per cent Syrah. This combination creates a clearly structured, modern interpretation of red wine style that is characterised by depth, pressure and precise texture. Its origins in central Burgenland, careful vinification and long ageing contribute to the typical density of Phantom, while the magnum size creates ideal conditions for slow, harmonious development. This makes the wine a versatile choice for festive occasions, special evenings and long-term storage.
Tasting Note
Deep dark purple in the glass with an almost black centre and high viscosity. Graphit, roasted blackcurrant aromas, black coffee, Assam tea and hibiscus unfold on the nose. On the palate, the wine is juicy with powerful, yet velvety tannins and flavours of Amarena cherry and fine tart cocoa bean. The finish is dry, savoury, precise and long-lasting with a cool mineral vein.

DAS PHANTOM 2023 is ideal with hearty meat dishes such as braised beef, leg of lamb or game ragout, as its structure and depth absorb intense flavours perfectly. It is also an ideal accompaniment to savoury mushroom dishes, mature hard cheese, grilled vegetables or truffle risotto. Due to its complexity and development potential, the wine is particularly suitable for festive menus, elegant dinner evenings and moments when a structurally strong, deep red wine is required. In the magnum bottle, it also makes an impressive impression at social gatherings, celebrations or as a high-quality wine accompaniment to special occasions.
