The Aberfeldy 18 Years Old Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Casks Napa Valley 43% vol. 0.7 l + GB is part of the Aberfeldy Distillery’s limited-edition Red Wine Cask Finish series and combines the distillery’s characteristic mild, honey-sweet character of the distillery with the aromatic intensity of Californian red wine casks. This Highland single malt was initially matured for 18 years in refilled and reconditioned bourbon oak casks, before undergoing a 15-month finish in Cabernet Sauvignon oak casks from the renowned Napa Valley. These premium wine casks lend the whisky additional depth, an elegant fruity richness and a multi-layered interplay of aromas that intensely highlights Aberfeldy’s natural style.


The distillery, renowned for its smooth, approachable yet aromatically expressive whiskies, has created a real highlight with this limited edition. The influence of the Cabernet Sauvignon brings fruity notes of red berries, a subtle tannin structure and a hint of Californian warmth, which blends harmoniously with the sweetness of the bourbon casks. Each batch – in this case, Batch No. 2923/B – is blended in carefully selected casks and presented in a high-quality gift box, which emphasises the exclusivity of this edition. At 43 per cent ABV, the whisky is full-bodied, smooth and long-lasting, with no chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with a reddish sheen.

Nose: Red berries, hints of green apples, delicate sweetness and subtle floral honey notes.

Palate: Fruity, smooth and well-balanced with spice, subtle sweetness and gentle tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon casks.

Finish: Long-lasting, mellow and harmonious with fruity, spicy and slightly vinous accents.

The Aberfeldy 18 Years Napa Valley Finish is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat, slightly chilled in a nosing glass. On the palate, it pairs superbly with mature hard cheeses, roast beef, grilled lamb, bacon dishes and savoury pâtés. Fruity, sweet accompaniments such as apple desserts, dark berry compositions, caramel cream or dark chocolate are also an excellent match. In mixology, it can be used to create elegant, wine-inspired whisky cocktails such as a Red Wine Old Fashioned. Its long-lasting, harmonious structure makes it an ideal whisky for special occasions and evenings of indulgence.
