The Fabelhaft Douro Tinto 2022 with 12.5% vol. in a 0.75-litre bottle is a characterful red wine cuvée from the Douro Valley that impressively bears the signature of Dirk Niepoort. The harvest begins at the beginning of September, as only grapes with freshness, acidity and precise fruit are desired for this wine - overripe grapes are deliberately avoided in order to preserve the lively style. After careful selection in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented at a controlled temperature. Then 15% of the wine matures for 12 months in French second-use barriques, while the rest retains its freshness in stainless steel tanks.


The cuvée is based on typical Douro grape varieties such as Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and other indigenous varieties. The combination of mineral soils and the sparse terroir of the Douro Valley results in a wine that combines elegance, structure and freshness. The 2022 vintage is particularly clear and lively, with medium density, fine tannins and an animating acidity structure. The label also contributes to its uniqueness: The illustrations are based on Wilhelm Busch's story of the raven Hans Huckebein, giving the wine a distinctive, culturally influenced appearance. A versatile, modern Douro wine that impresses with its clarity, balance and long-lasting flavour profile.

Tasting Note

Vibrant ruby red in the glass with purple reflections. Fresh wild berries, juicy blackberries, a hint of plums, sweet spices and spicy tea leaves on the nose. Elegant, youthfully fresh and voluminous on the palate, with a mineral profile, fine fruit acidity and soft tannins. The finish is balanced, aromatic and long-lasting.

The Fabelhaft Douro Tinto 2022 is an excellent accompaniment to pasta with spicy vegetable or meat sauces, pizza, aromatic stews, grilled beef or pork and Mediterranean oven dishes. This cuvée is also an excellent accompaniment to mild to medium-strength hard cheeses. Served at 16-18 °C, the fresh, mineral and long-lasting structure of this Portuguese red wine is particularly harmonious.
