The Pfneisl Ried Hexenberg 2022 is a deep and powerful Austrian quality red wine cuvée from central Burgenland that impressively combines origin, terroir and modern style. Produced by the renowned Pfneisl winery, this wine comes from the historic Hexenberg vineyard, whose name goes back to a local legend. The exceptional location combines heavy clay soil on the slope with a stony, heat-retaining plateau, allowing different grape varieties to ripen optimally. This speciality forms the basis for the expressive cuvée of Shiraz and Merlot, which harmoniously combines power, spice and elegance.


The Pfneisl Ried Hexenberg is vinified dry and matures for 22 months in new barriques, which gives the wine depth, structure and enormous ageing potential. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, the 2022 vintage is full-bodied, dense and balanced at the same time. The style is powerful, precise and characterised by mineral tension. This red wine from Burgenland needs air or a little ageing to develop its full aromatic diversity and has a drinking window of five to ten years or more. Bottled with a natural cork, this cuvée stands for sophistication, depth and lasting elegance.

Tasting Note

Dark ruby-garnet in colour with violet reflections and a delicate brightening of the rim. The nose reveals seductive aromas of dark fruit, ripe plums, black cherries, blueberries and blackberries, accompanied by poppy seeds, pepper, dried tomatoes and black olives. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and savoury, juicy and full-bodied with a fine melting texture, strong yet velvety-soft tannins and an animating acidity. The finish is mineral, lingering, with a noble bitter nougat note, mocha in the finish and subtle herbal spice in the aftertaste.

The Pfneisl Ried Hexenberg 2022 is ideal as a sophisticated accompaniment to game dishes, braised beef, lamb or festive menus, especially in the cooler months of the year. This powerful red wine cuvée also shows its full strength as a wine for special occasions or the Christmas menu.
