Mackmyra Svensk Rök Swedish Single Malt Whisky is a smoky Swedish single malt whisky, whose name translates as ‘Swedish Smoke’. Founded in 1999, the Mackmyra Distillery grew out of an idea conceived by eight friends who, whilst on a skiing trip together in 1998, discussed producing their own Swedish whisky. For Svensk Rök, Mackmyra relies on Swedish ingredients and offers its own unique take on smoky whisky. Juniper smoke plays a special role here, lending the malt a typically Nordic character and offering an alternative to the classic peaty smoke of Scottish whiskies. Distillation takes place in traditional pot stills before the whisky undergoes cask maturation.


Mackmyra Svensk Rök is matured in a combination of various selected casks, including American oak casks and ex-sherry casks, which add extra depth to the smoky base character. This Swedish single malt whisky is bottled at a robust 46.1% in a 0.7-litre bottle, with no added colouring and is non-chill-filtered. The bottle design also pays homage to Mackmyra Whisky’s origins: The lower section features eight distinctive indentations, symbolising the eight founders. The combination of juniper smoke, Swedish ingredients, pot-still distillation and a variety of cask types makes Svensk Rök a distinctive alternative for lovers of smoky single malts.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber.

Nose: Expressive and smoky with juniper, toasted wood and malt, accompanied by subtle vanilla and spicy herbal notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and spicy with smoked malt, juniper smoke and oak, complemented by vanilla and subtle spicy notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming with spicy smoke, juniper, dry oak and a delicate malt aftertaste.

The Mackmyra Svensk Rök is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to begin with, although a few drops of still water can open up the robust 46.1% ABV and bring out further spicy facets. Culinary pairings: this Swedish single malt goes particularly well with smoked salmon, grilled meat, game or strong hard cheese. Roasted nuts and dark chocolate also harmonise with its juniper smoke and cask-derived spice. Svensk Rök is particularly interesting for whisky tastings where different styles of smoke – such as juniper smoke and classic peated smoke – are compared.
