Rhum HSE Extra Vieux XO Grande Réserve is a high-quality Rhum Agricole Extra Vieux from Martinique, representing the time-honoured production methods of Habitation Saint-Étienne. Unlike classic molasses rum, Rhum Agricole is made from fresh sugar cane juice, which means that its origin and the raw material used play a particularly important role. For the XO Grande Réserve, some of the house’s oldest and finest matured distillates are carefully selected and blended together. The result is a complex, long-aged Rhum Agricole from the French Caribbean, whose style is characterised by the combination of various old reserves. HSE, short for Habitation Saint-Étienne, is one of the most traditional names in Martinique’s rum culture.


At 43 per cent in the 0.7-litre bottle, the HSE Extra Vieux XO Grande Réserve is a multi-layered expression for connoisseurs of matured agricultural rums. The blending of selected aged distillates ensures a balanced and elegant character, in which the long ageing period is clearly evident. Tasting Note

Colour: Brilliant amber.

Nose: Multi-faceted and elegant with pronounced spicy notes and a mature, complex oak aroma.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced with fragrant mocha, bitter cocoa and blond tobacco, accompanied by freshly ground pepper and spicy nutmeg.

Finish: Long-lasting and elegant, with subtle spice, toasted nuances and harmonious, lingering oak notes.

The Rhum HSE Extra Vieux XO Grande Réserve is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, allowing the complex matured and spicy notes to unfold fully. It pairs particularly well with dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, roasted nuts or desserts featuring coffee and cocoa. This full-bodied Rhum Agricole can also provide an interesting contrast to mature hard cheeses. Thanks to its XO character, this bottling is particularly well suited as a digestif, for quiet moments of enjoyment or for comparative tastings of high-quality Rhum Agricole from Martinique.
