HSE Rhum Extra Vieux XO Grande Reserve is a premium Rhum Agricole from Martinique, representing the rich tradition of sugarcane cultivation in the French Caribbean. It is produced by Habitation Saint-Étienne – HSE for short – a long-established producer on the island. As an agricultural rum, its production is based on fresh sugar cane juice, making it fundamentally different from molasses-based rum. For the XO Grande Reserve, some of the distillery’s oldest and finest matured distillates are carefully selected and blended together. The designation ‘Extra Vieux XO’ emphasises the distinctly matured character of this special bottling.


At 43% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box, the Rhum HSE Agricole Extra Vieux XO is a complex and elegant speciality for connoisseurs of long-aged sugarcane distillates. The blending of various aged reserves ensures depth and balance, whilst the long cask maturation brings out spicy, roasted and subtly woody notes. Mocha, cocoa, tobacco and spices in particular define its mature character. The combination of its Martinique origin, fresh sugarcane juice, XO maturation and the blending of selected aged distillates makes the Grande Reserve a distinctive premium release from HSE. The included gift box completes the high-quality presentation.

Tasting Note

Colour: Brilliant amber.

Nose: Multi-faceted and elegant, with pronounced spicy notes and complex, mature oak aromas.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced with fragrant mocha, bitter cocoa and blond tobacco, accompanied by freshly ground pepper and spicy nutmeg.

Finish: Long-lasting and elegant with delicate notes of spice, toast and oak.

The HSE Rhum Extra Vieux XO Grande Reserve is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, allowing its complex spectrum of flavours to unfold fully. It pairs well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts and desserts featuring coffee or cocoa, which complement the mocha and roasted notes. This matured Rhum Agricole also makes an excellent digestif after a hearty dinner.
