The Dellavalle Grappa Affinata in botti da MALVASIA 2007 is a premium grappa from Piedmont, produced from 100% Barbera pomace sourced from selected vineyards in the Monferrato region. Distillation is carried out using traditional discontinuous methods in small stills in a water bath, in order to bring out the characteristic properties of the pomace as precisely as possible. The long period of cask ageing plays a significant role in the distinctive profile of this bottling. The grappa is first aged for 6 years in a 30-hl cask made of Allier oak. This is followed by a further two years of refinement in used Malvasia barriques, which previously contained the typically aromatic Italian wine.
Thanks to a total of eight years’ cask maturation, the Dellavalle Grappa Malvasia 2007 combines the powerful structure of the Barbera pomace with the influences of Allier oak and Malvasia casks. The result is a mature grappa with a distinct personality and a warm, herbaceous character. With an ABV of 42 per cent, this vintage bottling is presented in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in a high-quality wooden box. The combination of the 2007 vintage, Barbera pomace from Monferrato, traditional water-bath distillation, six years’ ageing in Allier oak and two years’ finishing in Malvasia barriques makes this Dellavalle bottling a special choice for connoisseurs of long-aged Italian grappas.
Tasting Note
Colour: Amber.
Nose: A delicate, fragrant and warm herbal bouquet with an incomparable character and distinct personality.
Palate: Powerful and intense, with characteristic herbal and matured cask notes.
Finish: Long-lasting with distinctive aromas of eucalyptus.
The Dellavalle Grappa Affinata in botti da Malvasia 2007 should be served neat at around 18 °C to allow its intense herbal character and the influences of its long cask ageing to unfold to the full. It pairs well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, almond biscuits or mature hard cheese. The grappa is also ideal as a digestif after a hearty Italian meal or to accompany an espresso. Thanks to the 2007 vintage, the special barrel ageing and the presentation in a wooden box, this bottling also makes a high-quality gift for grappa connoisseurs and collectors.
