The Kilchoman MACHIR BAY Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is regarded as the flagship of the independent farm distillery, Kilchoman Distillery, and embodies the distillery’s classic house style in a particularly accessible form. Named after the famous Machir Bay beach on the west coast of Islay, this bottling embodies a maritime, smoky Islay character that confidently holds its own alongside the island’s big names. The whisky is predominantly composed of malts aged for around six years and combines freshness, smoke and cask balance to create a clear overall profile.


Maturation takes place mainly in ex-bourbon casks, complemented by a smaller proportion of Oloroso sherry casks, which lend the whisky additional depth and structure. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring, the texture and all the aroma-giving oils and esters are fully preserved. The Kilchoman Machir Bay is thus deliberately kept authentic and reflects the distillery’s philosophy of producing Islay whisky entirely on site, from barley cultivation to bottling. This bottling is ideal both as an introduction to the world of Kilchoman and as a reliable example of a classic, peaty Islay single malt.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold, a natural result of cask maturation.

Nose: Sweetish smoke, lemon, lime, maritime freshness.
