The history of Navy Strength Gin originated already when Great Britain with the Royal Navy was an emerging naval power (end of the 17th century). Among the British soldiers, not only Indian Pale Ale, but also gin was very popular. To motivate them and keep them happy, a certain ration of gin was carried on every ship.
Since drunken soldiers kept spilling gin over the gunpowder they were carrying, the government decided that gin had to have at least 57% alcohol by volume so as not to negatively affect its ignition capabilities. As a test, gunpowder was doused with gin and then set on fire. This is where the name "Gunpowder Proof" or "Navy Strength Gin" comes from.
Our Navy Strenth Gin can boast a comprehensive range of different distilleries and brands. As a special feature, we would like to introduce our Rammstein Gin Navy Strength. It is an aromatic gin from Great Britain with classic sweet mild and citrus flavors.
