This characterful Islay single malt Scotch whisky combines the distillery's typical powerful smokiness with complex cask maturation, which adds depth and aromatic complexity. As with all of the distillery's bottlings, the barley is dried over peat fires, which gives the whisky its distinctive smoky character. The clear water from the nearby Kilbride Stream, which has been part of the production of this legendary peated Scotch whisky for generations, is used for distillation.


The speciality of this Laphroaig PX Cask Whisky lies in its elaborate triple maturation. Firstly, the whisky is matured in ex-bourbon casks made from American oak, which bring out classic notes of vanilla and oak. The whisky is then transferred to traditional white oak quarter casks, smaller casks in the style of the 19th century, which enable more intensive maturation thanks to a larger wooden surface and give the Islay single malt a particularly velvety texture. The final character of the whisky comes from its refinement in Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, which develops additional flavours of dried fruit and a pleasant sweetness. This combination creates a complex balance of smoke, fruit and spicy depth.
