The Port Charlotte PMC:01 2013 is a heavily peated Islay single malt whisky produced at the renowned Bruichladdich Distillery. The name Port Charlotte stands for the distillery's intensely smoky whisky series, with each bottling being characterised by a specific alphanumeric coding. The PMC:01 Edition is part of the exclusive Cask Exploration Series, which focuses on small batches with special cask maturations. This bottling offers a unique combination of strong peat smoke and fruity wine cask notes, making it a distinctive treat for lovers of smoky whiskies.

This whisky was distilled in 2013 and initially matured for four years in first-fill bourbon casks, developing sweet vanilla and oak notes. It was then matured for five years in Pomerol wine barrels - one of the most prestigious appellations on the right bank of Bordeaux. This exceptional choice of cask gives the whisky a fascinating depth, fruity accents and an elegant structure.

With a phenol content of 40 ppm, this limited edition whisky embodies the classic, heavily peated Islay profile, but remains wonderfully balanced thanks to the influences of the French wine casks. Its multi-layered flavour reflects the innovative strength of Bruichladdich Distillery, which combines modern cask maturation techniques with traditional Islay whisky production.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with reddish reflections.

Nose: Warm peat smoke meets ripe red fruits such as raspberries and strawberries, accompanied by spicy oak, dark chocolate and a hint of sea salt.

Flavour: Full-bodied and complex with dominant smoky notes, sweet malt sugar, blackberries and plums, complemented by fine spicy notes and subtle herbal tones.

Finish: Langs with elegant fruitiness, sea breeze and the intense, smoky character that is typical of Port Charlotte.

Port Charlotte PMC:01 2013 unfolds its full depth on its own or with a splash of water to emphasise the complex barrel notes even more. Its powerful structure harmonises perfectly with mature blue cheese, smoked meat or dark chocolate.
