The Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a traditional single malt Irish whiskey whose history dates back to 1876. At 43% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle and presented in a high-quality gift box (GB), this bottling commemorates the surprise victory of the racehorse Tyrconnell in the prestigious National Produce Stakes. The horse’s owner, R. M. Delamere, made history with this success and inspired the distiller A. A. Watt to dedicate a small-batch whisky to the winner. Originally intended as a one-off special edition, The Tyrconnell went on to become the distillery’s most successful whisky and was even considered the best-selling Irish whisky at times prior to Prohibition. Today, the brand is continued by the Kilbeggan Distilling Company, one of Ireland’s oldest whisky producers, which preserves traditional Irish whisky-making methods. To this day, every bottle bears the historic label commemorating the racehorse’s legendary victory.


Unlike most Irish single malts, The Tyrconnell Single Malt is double-distilled. This comparatively rare process preserves a great deal of the distillate’s character and gives the whisky its creamy, full-bodied texture and a pronounced malty profile. Carefully selected barley forms the basis for a balanced interplay of aromas, including honey, fresh citrus fruits and delicate malty notes. Roasted nuts, nougat and subtle oak spice complement the complex structure, making this whisky an elegant example of a classic Irish single malt. Its harmonious character comes into its own both neat and with a few drops of water.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Toasted nuts, nougat, mild oak, honey and subtle citrus notes.

Palate: Creamy and full-bodied with honey, citrus fruits, malty sweetness, roasted nuts, vanilla and a subtle hint of grain.

Finish: Medium-long to long with a pronounced malty character, harmonious cereal notes and elegant oaky spice.
