Description
The Marchesi Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 14% Vol. 0.75 l is a masterpiece from Tuscany and comes from one of Italy's most famous wineries, Marchesi Antinori, which has been making winegrowing history for over 600 years. The Pian delle Vigne estate is located just a few kilometres south-west of Montalcino and comprises vineyards that are perfectly suited to the Sangiovese Grosso grape variety - the variety that produces the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
The grapes for the 2020 vintage were carefully selected and vinified traditionally. The wine matured for over 2 years in large oak barrels and a further period in the bottle to fully develop its complex aromas and elegant structure. The Pian delle Vigne Brunello is characterised by a combination of power, elegance and finesse and embodies the unmistakable signature of the Antinori family. With 14% alcohol by volume, it is expressive, balanced and has excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Note
The Brunello di Montalcino 2020 has an intense ruby red colour with garnet-red reflections in the glass. The nose reveals complex aromas of ripe cherries, plums and dark berries, accompanied by floral nuances, fine spices, tobacco and a hint of leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied, powerful and elegant at the same time, with ripe, velvety tannins, well-integrated acidity and an impressive length on the finish.
The Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino is a versatile and elegant accompaniment to food. It harmonises excellently with grilled or braised beef, lamb, game dishes and hearty pasta variations. It also shows its full strength with mature Pecorino or Parmigiano. It is just as elegant when served on festive occasions as it is when enjoyed in small groups. The ideal serving temperature is 16-18 °C, and a brief decanting before consumption is recommended.
