The Montes Merlot Reserva 2023 comes from Chile's Valle Central, a region with optimal climatic conditions and deep, sandy soils in which the vines are deeply rooted and allow the fruit to develop full of character. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are used for this cuvée, the grapes of which are brought to the winery immediately after the harvest, selected and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures before the wine matures for several months on the fine lees. This combination of traditional vinification and finely tuned use of wood forms the basis for the powerful, structured style for which the Montes winery is known. The reserve character emphasises the selected grape quality and the precise ageing method, which gives the wine its clear, harmonious structure.

Tasting Note

Deep dark purple red in the glass. Wild berry jam, plum jam and blueberries on the nose, complemented by subtle balsamic notes from the barrel ageing. Aromatic, fruity and balanced on the palate with a dense texture. The finish is remarkable, clearly structured and long-lasting, supported by fine mineral Langs.

This Merlot Reserva from the Valle Central harmonises perfectly with roast veal liver in combination with apples, onions and a balsamic vinegar sauce. It is also an excellent accompaniment to cod with cucumber and mustard vegetables or lamb ragout with chickpeas and dried figs.
